ARMA, stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military simulation games originally developed for Microsoft Windows. Known for its high level of realism, the series combines large-scale military operations across expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The first installment was launched in 2006, with subsequent titles released up to 2013. Over time, ARMA games have become available not only on Windows but also on Linux, Android, and iOS platforms.
The inaugural game, *ARMA: Armed Assault* (called *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States), debuted in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by a European release in February 2007, and a U.S. release in May 2007. It utilized the Real Virtuality 2 engine to deliver authentic military simulation.
The latest entry, *ARMA 3*, is a standalone title released for Windows on September 12, 2013. It initially entered public testing through Steam’s Early Access program on March 5, 2013. The game leverages the more advanced Real Virtuality 4 engine. Between late 2015 and early 2016, *ARMA 3* was also made available on Linux and Mac in earlier versions, with plans to fully synchronize these versions with the main Windows release later on.
